It always starts out the same.
Me, alone in a place where the walls are barely visible due to the thick fog and the small scatter of twinkling lights sparkle and shine through the dimly lit cracks in the swirling of smoke; they have no affect on my vision.
A place where transparent water meets with my senses and plummet all chances of my awareness and I tumble through what seems to be hedges of never ending green.
A place where the wind sends quick chills down my spine and glows a dark blue against hard green grass; a humid feeling that sticks to the pads of my fingers as I slowly gain friction against my bare arms in the breeze.
“It’s normal for me to toss and turn at night, you know that but…its never because of a nightmare…Sulli, I never, NEVER have nightmares…”
“Amber…you’re scaring me…”
“But sometimes I hear voices. They tell me to…to do these things and if I do, they would make my life happy, make my life perfect…have you ever had that feeling? That kind of dream?”
“I want to cry out. To tell them, to ask them “Hey, who are you, and why do you want so much as to control me?” but my voice turns out hollow and it just ends up blending with the wind. There isn’t any life to it…and it stretches miles and miles ahead of me in whispering echoes.”
“Onnie, you’re scaring me. Stop it…its just a nightmare you cant do anything ab--”
“ITS NOT A NIGHTMARE SULLI! I don’t get nightmares.”
“Everyone has them Amber Onnie, its only normal!”
The nights after that have never been the same for me.
I toss and turn in bed, never finding the right position to sleep in and when I do, I only wake up drenched in sweat.
My heavy breathing due to this “nightmare” only scares Sulli all the more, and it hurts me to see her not getting enough sleep because of me.
It’s the voices.
It’s the Echoes.
